Performing for the King

An exciting new temporary exhibition at the Banqueting House

19 July - 1 September 2013

Performing for the King

Introduction

Historic Royal Palaces is excited to present, Performing for the King - the making of a court masque, a unique family-friendly exhibition at the Banqueting House in Whitehall.

Masques were performed for royalty at the Banqueting House in the seventeenth century but this summer everyone is invited to take part. The festivities begin on 19 July and will run until 1 September 2013.

It is 1632 and Inigo Jones is preparing to put on a masque. His star performer is none other than Queen Henrietta Maria who, along with her ladies, will aim to delight His Majesty King Charles I.

Discover more about how the court masque was put together and meet some of the characters, including Inigo himself. Try to impress the King by learning the dance steps and have fun trying on some rather peculiar costumes!

Enjoy the music, work our specially commissioned scenery models and watch the drama unfold when the amazing scenery comes to life and you are invited to become part of the performance.
