Princess Sophia Duleep Singh was the daughter of the Sikh Maharaja Duleep Singh. Sophia’s godmother, Queen Victoria, granted her and her sister, Bamba, grace-and-favour accommodation at Hampton Court Palace in 1898.

The sisters became active suffragettes, campaigning for votes for Women. Sophia accompanied Emmeline Pankhurst on the suffragettes’ first march, or deputation, to parliament in 1910.
