Projects and activities from Hampton Court Palace's community programmes

The palace's programme is all about linking to the surrounding area and reaching new visitors who might otherwise have difficulty accessing the palace and its history.

Access Forum at Hampton Court

Drawn from the local community, members of the Historic Royal Palaces Access Forum help improve the experience at the palace for people with disabilities.

They regularly contribute to the planning of exhibitions and are consulted on a range of other matters both at Hampton Court Palace and Kew Palace.

The forum engages in a dialogue with project managers from the outset, making access issues integral to the process.

Having started as a small trial on the re-presentation of Kew Palace, the Access Forum's valuable contributions mean they are now routinely involved with discussions for major interpretation projects at Hampton Court Palace, such as the Young Henry VIII exhibition.

Virtual tour: Young Henry VIII exhibition
2008

Hampton Court's Access Forum contributed to the development of a touch screen and online virtual tour to the exhibition.

Visitors to the palace (and online) are now able to preview the exhibition rooms, 'zoom in' on the paintings and find details of the multiple access routes to the exhibition with this virtual tour. The touch screen can be found on the palace Information Centre's ground floor.
