The need for an alternative experience
Hampton Court's Access Forum contributed to the development of a touch screen and online virtual tour to the Young Henry VIII exhibition.
The exhibition is situated in the Wolsey rooms in the palace, but as they are inaccessible for people in wheelchairs, and not particularly easy to reach for those with other mobility difficulties, the Access Forum was consulted on how to help people experience the exhibition without having to climb the stairs.
It was decided to create a virtual tour. Visitors to the palace (and online) are now able to preview the exhibition rooms, 'zoom in' on the paintings and find details of the multiple access routes to the exhibition with this virtual tour. The touch screen can be found on the palace Information Centre's ground floor.
