Part-time Diploma in Garden Design

From examining what makes a pleasing garden space through to brainstorming sessions on style, balance and mass planting, this day combines lectures and practical exercises to help you take the first step towards creating your ideal garden.
Ideas for Summer Border Planting

This inspiring day will examine a wide variety of planting combinations with illustrated talks and an opportunity to draw inspiration from the colourful Hampton Court herbaceous borders. Gain ideas on how to create borders for summer impact, with particular attention to colour combinations. The day will also discuss practical considerations such as improving your soil, sourcing the plants and how to space the plants and decide on numbers to buy.
Introduction to Garden Design

Offered as an inspiring part-time or week-long course this is ideal for anyone looking for a thorough, practical introduction to garden design. Our practising professional designers will take students chronologically through the process of a garden design project – from setting the brief and the principles of garden design through to selecting plants and materials. The syllabus covers; the starting point, site surveys, functional layouts, garden themes, planting design, types and names of plants, creative planting,practical gardening techniques from soil improvement to plant care and management, materials and finishes.
How to Light Up Your Garden

To understand the basic principles of exterior lighting design and developing a lighting scheme into a detailed lighting plan. Covering lighting principles, overview of lamps (including colour temperature and rendition, beam widths and lamp life),controlling your exterior space, lighting schemes & plans.
Making the Most of Your Small Town Garden
15 June 2012
This workshop will show you how to create a simple geometric design for a small garden. You will be shown how to capitalise on the constraints of a small space and how to play up its distinctive characteristics. There will also be an analysis of a selection of materials, so that by the end of the day students will have the confidence to put together a competent scheme for a small town garden.
The All Year Garden

Learn how to create a stunning planting scheme that looks good all year round. Discover the importance of structure in the garden and how this will give your garden a long season of interest. This workshop will also demonstrate how form and texture are vital ingredients in a planting scheme and show how to choose plants that create seasonal splashes of colour and scent in each season of the year.
