The RSN is the international centre for teaching, practicing and promoting hand embroidery across a wide range of techniques.
The Royal School of Needlework

Information

We run hand embroidery courses for all levels of ability from beginners to professional standards including a Degree Programme. Each year we welcome over 1000 students from all over the world to our classes at our home here in Hampton Court Palace, in regional UK teaching centres and internationally in the US, Japan and the Netherlands. In 2012 we celebrated our 140th anniversary and 25 years of being based at Hampton Court Palace.

You can glimpse our Embroidery Studio on the East Front of the palace. Here we carry out conservation and restoration of antique needlework (including family heirlooms such as christening robes) and the creation of small and large embroideries for individuals and organisations. In 2011 we were delighted to work with Sarah Burton OBE on the creation of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress and this year we helped create a Red Carpet Oscar dress for British actress Naomie Harris.

You can visit us on an RSN tour (pre-booking essential) where you’ll see our exhibition of ecclesiastical work including the 12 stunning Litany of Loreto embroideries from our Collection. You can visit our shop on the East Front, opposite the Garden Shop and just inside the East Front gates
