Where to eat at: Tower of London and Kensington Palace

Why not have a picnic at Hampton Court Palace?

Visitors may picnic on any of the benches in the gardens and there are picnic tables in the 20th Century Garden. Visitors may also picnic on the grass in the Tiltyard and Wilderness Gardens.  However, the only under-cover areas are the two small pavilions by the herbaceous border behind the Tiltyard Garden.

Inside the palace, visitors may picnic on the seats in the courtyards.  No food or drink may be consumed inside the building.

Did you know?

The Tiltyard was built as a large arena for tournaments in 1537 due to the fact that Henry VIII loved sport. The brick tower is all that remains of Henry’s tiltyard. From there and other towers, spectators had wonderful views of both tournaments and the surrounding gardens.

The Privy Kitchen originally contained three fireplaces. This kitchen was built in 1570 as the private kitchen to cook and prepare the finest food for Queen Elizabeth and her closest courtiers.
