Henry VIII: heads and hearts

If Henry VIII was still alive today, but wasn't a king, what do you think he would be? A gangster, rock star or politician?

We would love to hear your thoughts. Please add a comment to our message board below.

I think King Henry VIII would be a mobster boss. He would be able to dominate others, have all his needs catered to, and all the women he wanted. Whereas, a rock star or politician has to placate the public all the time or they lose credibility, which could lead to the loss of their occupation.

Henry in the beginning loved poetry and music. He was impressive and sought to impress. I think he would have been an artiste perhaps a composer who womanized quite a bit. The pressure to produce an heir would not have arisen and he would have run wild after a few years of marriage.

I think he would be a teacher and a politician.

As Henry was a tall chap at 6ft 3, I believe he would have had a personality similar to Simon Cowell and the business brain of Richard Branson. Ruthless in business and a person with a fierce temper when aroused. Certainly someone who would leave a lasting impression on all he met.

I'm inclined to think Henry would be an athletic star. During his reign, especially the early years, he was more interested in sports than the politics of his realm.

I think Henry would be a great corrupted politician. He only gave orders and never killed anybody with his own hands, so maybe he would also be one heck of a judge, crazy and bloodthirsty.

I think if Henry was alive today and started spouting about `I am God', he would very likely be diagnosed as delusional and be locked up! I just imagine this sketch where he walks into my local welsh Valleys pub (as dressed in the Holbein portrait) and starts sounding off about being the supreme head of the church, moaning about his wives and Wolsey...while the regulars at the bar catch each others eye, mutter `we've got a right one 'ere' and ask politely where's the fancy dress party you're go

Henry VIII would be a rock star adored by millions - groupies, flunkys, world tours, flamboyant outfits, feasts...it all fits - "hello wembley..make some noise for Henryyyyyyyyy Tudooooorrr".

In these times, Henry VIII would be a Machiavellian politician and be better at it than anyone that could be named today; he'd also be a Renaissance man: music, poetry, and the use of European languages. Voila! He'd also be diagnosed schizophrenic.
