Best for…

This large space has been popular for receptions.

A little history of the space…

Queen Mary II decided to build a gallery of her own when her husband William III was away on campaign. The gallery was the first sitting room, designed to be an intimate space where the Queen and her maids could hold recreational activities.

Later, in the reign of her sister Queen Anne, the Russian Tsar Peter the Great was received in this room. His portrait still gazes at visitors from the end of the chamber.

In August 1734, shortly after being presented to the King in the nearby Presence Chamber, a party of Cherokee chieftains, adorned with feathers and painted faces, was presented to Queen Caroline in this room.
