Princess Line

‘I’m always conscious of what’s in fashion because without following it too strictly, one must get the line right.'

Princess Margaret

The fashion legacy of Princess Margaret

Throughout her lifetime, Princess Margaret presented an image of elegance and charisma. Her keen eye and attention to detail meant she was a setter of trends rather than a follower.

As her style changed over the years, she always remained at the forefront of fashion. The Princess danced at balls and charity events in extravagant debutante dresses by Norman Hartnell. She later embraced Christian Dior’s lavish New Look, continually epitomising the grace and glamour of her time.

Her wardrobe varied in accordance with the occasion yet always remained appealing. She wore relaxed kaftans at her holiday retreat of Mustique and more regal styles for official appointments.

Constantly featuring in the best-dressed fashion lists of her day, Vogue magazine also recently highlighted the Princess’ style in their historical ‘90 Years of Vogue’ issue.

Her classic style has withstood the test of time and, even today, Princess Margaret’s iconic look continues to resonate within contemporary collections, ranging from Haute Couture to high street. Designers as diverse as Vivienne Westwood, Burberry and Topshop have used her as inspiration for their clothing ranges.
