Conservation in Focus Tours

A behind the scenes experience

Tim Archbold sketch

There is an opportunity to get up close and personal at our historic sites through current building conservation projects. At Historic Royal Palaces we open conservation sites to school groups and special interest groups.

Don’t miss the chance for students to wear a hard hat and be a conservator as they engage with the fabric of the building and learn from the conservation work of our experts through a guided scaffold tour.

Tailor your session

Live conservation projects offer learning opportunities that can support the National Curriculum in many ways. Conservation in Focus links to areas of Science, Geography, History, Art & Design. This is also a wonderful opportunity for university and diploma students studying conservation, heritage, construction and the built environment.

We would happily design a bespoke session or a creative workshop adapted to your schemes of work.

What's happening next?

The Bowyer Tower

From April to October 2013, a team of passionate conservators will be cleaning and repairing the fabric of the Bowyer Tower, and we are opening the conservation site to school groups.

Students will engage with King Henry III’s defence and learn from the conservation work of our experts through a guided scaffold tour, pointing and stonemason activities.
