Banqueting House

The Banqueting House, with its amazing ceiling paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, the only Rubens paintings to remain in their original location, is the only remaining complete building of Whitehall Palace, the sovereign's principal residence from 1530 until 1698 when it was destroyed by fire. The Banqueting House is perhaps most famous for being the site of the execution of King Charles I in 1649.
