Historic Royal Palaces announces new Chairman of Campaign Board

The Kensington Palace Project is a major part of the £20m fundraising campaign

Press release

Ian Barlow, Senior Advisor, KPMG UK, has been appointed Chairman of Historic Royal Palaces’ Campaign Board with effect from 1 July 2008.  Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that cares for and conserves the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House at Whitehall, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace.  Ian takes over from Angela Heylin OBE LVO who retires after ten years service.

The Campaign Board is responsible for a new fundraising campaign designed to raise £20m by 2012.  The funds will support major projects such as the transformation of Kensington Palace, the restoration of the White Tower at the Tower of London and the re-presentation of both the Jewel House at the Tower of London and the Tudor Palace at Hampton Court.  In addition, the Campaign will support Historic Royal Palaces’ work in the fields of education and outreach.

Charles Mackay, Chairman of Historic Royal Palaces said :

“Historic Royal Palaces is delighted that Ian Barlow has accepted the position of Chairman of the Campaign Board.  Ian succeeds Angela Heylin who, in addition to chairing the Campaign Board, was a founder trustee of our charity. We are most grateful to Angela Heylin for her enormous contribution to our life and work over these last ten years and are delighted that her accomplishments have been recognised by being awarded a LVO in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours.  We are also very pleased that Angela has agreed to remain as a Member of the Campaign Board. Our Campaign has already received a number of notable gifts and pledges prior to its formal launch on 1 April and we are confident that the projects that will be made possible by it will inspire sponsors and donors to get involved and help us achieve our ambitions.  Under Ian’s leadership, we are confident of success.”

Historic Royal Palaces Campaign Board currently comprises John Anderson, Ian Barlow, Bruce Carnegie-Brown, Margaret Doyle, Sue Farr, Noel Harwerth, Angela Heylin, Patricia Hodge, Glenn Hurstfield, Joyce Hytner, Lord Inge of Richmond, Sir Adrian Montague, Lady Judge, Luke Meynell and Allen Sangines-Krause.

Historic Royal Palaces
Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House at Whitehall Palace, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace.  We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.
These palaces are owned by The Queen on behalf of the nation, and we manage them for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
We believe in four principles.  Guardianship: giving these palaces a future as long and valuable as their past. Discovery: encouraging people to make links with their own lives and today’s world.  Showmanship: doing everything with panache. Independence: having our own point of view and finding new ways to do our work.
Registered charity number 1068852.
