The Tower of London occupies a prominent place in our nation's history, and many of the events that have helped to shape the country have taken place within the very walls of this fortress.

The Tower is also, however, the subject of a great number of myths. Therefore, it occupies a central position in the popular imagination as a site of imprisonment and execution.
Whilst a great number of people have been incarcerated at the Tower of London over the centuries, only very few were executed there.
