Archaeology Weekend
This free, fun community event gives the public access to the foreshore of the Tower of London (often referred to as 'Tower Beach'), where they can try their hands at being archaeologists, looking for interesting things which have washed up over the years. Professional archaeologists are on hand to idenify what people find, whilst there are stalls and family activities up on the Tower Wharf, where people can look at historic objects, speak to conservation specialists and learn more about archaeology and the Tower.
At part of their ‘Hands on History’ activities, BBC Learning came to the 2011 event and recorded some people talking about their finds - you can listen to some of them below, or have a look at the photos. To find out more about BBC Learning’s ‘Hands on History’ activities, click here.
