The transformation of Kensington Palace

The renovated and transformed Palace will re-open on 26 March 2012

Kensington Palace
Kensington Palace is currently closed for the final phase of its £12m transformation and will re-open on 26 March 2012.

Upon opening, explore our new gardens, shop, café and terrace.  The Palace’s interiors are also being restored to reflect the grandeur of their many royal residents and will be home to a series of new exhibitions.

Discover stories from Queen Victoria's life told in her own words in the new Victoria Revealed exhibition; master the games of royal court in the magnificent King's State Apartments; get a glimpse of a modern Princess in a special exhibition of some of Diana's dresses and uncover the secrets of a fragile dynasty in the beautiful Queen's State Apartments.

A new lift will provide level access to all floors and, from 26 March 2012, for the first time, children will enjoy free admission to the Palace.

The £12 million project will also introduce new education and community facilities. Dedicated spaces will be created to accommodate formal and informal learners, as well as helping serve the needs of local community groups.

The Palace will be linked once again to the neighbouring park through new public gardens inspired by the historic layout of the area. Historic vistas to and from the palace will be reinstated, and a new outdoor space for public use and enjoyment created.

The £12 million transformation has been generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and through our appeal by individuals, sponsors, trusts and members of the public.
