Parents telling tales...

Recently a group of parents from Kensington were coached in the art of storytelling, before presenting their palace tales to local children...

Story time

As part of the 'Palace Explorers' project at Kensington Palace, which saw local school children and their families discover the stories of this great building, a group of enthusiastic parents gained the confidence to learn how to become master storytellers.

Taking inspiration from some of Kensington's amazing stories, the parents worked with palace staff and professional storyteller Diana Olutunmogun to hone their skills - learning how to take facts and make them fun, how to keep an audience interested, how to project your voice and much more.

In October 2011, the parents were unleashed! They went to Kensington Central Library and the Brompton Library to deliver public story sessions for children during half-term - and they did a fantastic job!

The parents told the story of Peter the Wild Boy, a feral youth found in the woods in Hanover and brought to live at Kensington Palace in the early 18th century as a court curiosity. They made Peter's story fun, thrilling and poignant, and managed to entertain audiences of children and parents.

Well done to the new star storytellers!
