Paul joined Historic Royal Palaces in August 2011 as Palaces Group Director for Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace (within the grounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) and Queen Charlotte’s Cottage (also at Kew Gardens). He is responsible for all visitor services and front of house operations, management and maintenance of palaces, grounds and estates, events and functions, commercial development, income generation, partnerships, security and facilities management.

In 2009, he became Deputy Director for Turner Contemporary – the new build £17.4m contemporary arts gallery in Margate. Whilst there he was responsible for all marketing and communications, commercial activity, finance, visitor services and facilities management. He was instrumental in co-ordinating the successful launch of the Gallery in April 2011, culminating in over 150,000 visitors during the first three months of operation.

In 2004 Paul joined the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as Event Sales and Marketing Manager, until promotion two years later to Head of Venue Hire and Commercial Events, responsible for all income generating events at both Kew and its sister organisation, Wakehurst Place, in west Sussex.

Paul left school at 16 in 1987, working for what was then Midland Bank. Three years later, he decided to go back to further and higher education - graduating from Leeds University in 1995. He started his post-university career in arts marketing, working for various performing and visual arts organisations that included the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds and the V&A Museum in London. For three years, he was co-director of an events production company that created and delivered events for clients such as WHSmith and Umbro.

He is married to Jacki and they have one child. In his spare time, he enjoys the performing arts, film, watching and (not as frequently as he would like) playing a variety of sports.
