The Great Pagoda of Kew and the Chinoiserie craze

Learn about the Great Pagoda’s historical and architectural significance and the wider fashion for Chinoiserie in the Georgian period, with experts from HRP and the Royal Pavilion. Immerse yourself in the art of japanning and lacquer work in a hands-on demonstration, and tour the 18th-century sites of Kew Gardens.

Ticket includes all lectures, tea/coffee, a sandwich lunch, exclusive access to Kew Palace, entrance to Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and a guided tour in the gardens.



David Beevers, Keeper of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. Davidcurated the exhibition Chinese Whispers: Chinoiserie in Britain 1650-1930.

Lee Prosser, Historic Buildings Curator at Historic Royal Palaces. Lee worked on several major projects for Historic Royal Palaces including re-presentation/restoration of Kew Palace. He is co-author of the Kew Palace: the Official Illustrated History.

Jonathan Scott, Conservator and Manager of HRP’s Kew site. Jonathan covers the Kew Palace, Royal Kitchens, Queen Charlotte’s Cottage and the Great Pagoda.
