Are we doing enough? Keeping heritage relevant in the 21st Century

This heritage and learning conference will ask: Are historic buildings and museums working in the best way to ensure maximum impact on audiences in today’s society. Are we engaging diverse audiences?

Hosted by Historic Royal Palaces - DEMHIST and CECA bring together a host of exciting international speakers to share their knowledge and experience of engaging with audiences in new and authentic ways, through objects and stories that unlock meaning and make them relevant to the 21st century.

Themes within the conference will explore ways in which the sector can:

  • Connect with audiences within the local community
  • Ensure key narratives stay relevant for our audiences as ideas of national identity change over time
  • Explore the sector's value as a tool for education and learning – staying relevant for formal and informal learners
  • Remain relevant in a rapidly changing technological society

Call for conference papers

We are now inviting proposals for papers to be delivered in a variety of formats to explore the themes above. We are particularly interested in how historic buildings and museums make sense of the places they look after by engaging the public through presentation, interpretation, programming and education. Please note that simultaneous translation to and from English and one other language will be available.
