The gallery that goes all the way around the chapel is a standing area called a triforium. This space  could have been used by women who wished to attend chapel services.  Lady Jane Grey, who was queen for 9 days, spent time in the chapel. They say that the night before she was executed on Tower Green she stayed in the gallery praying through the night.
