27 October 2014

Join us under the cover of darkness for an evening of spine chilling stories and ghostly goings-on at Hampton Court Palace

Selected dates from 31 October 2014, 7pm

Hampton Court Palace has sat looming over the river Thames for nearly 500 years. This winter, delve into the palace’s spookiest stories and most terrifying tales on an evening ghost tour.

Launching on Halloween (when else?), this year’s ghost tours offer the brave the chance to experience the unique atmosphere of the palace’s state apartments, deserted courtyards and eerie cloisters after dark, joining our State Apartment Warders for some of the spookiest stories from half a millennium of history.

Visit the spot where two bodies were discovered in shallow graves in the 1870s, hear the tale of the Tudor royal nurse whose spirit is said to stalk her former apartments, and decide for yourself the origin of the mysterious figure caught on CCTV in the palace in the dead of night.

Will you make it through the infamous Haunted Gallery - where ill-fated Queen Catherine Howard was dragged away to her death by her husband’s guards – in the dark? There’s only one way to find out. One word of warning: wrap up warm, as the weather won’t be the only thing giving you the chills…

A number of special family ghost tours will also take place on selected dates from November, offering a chance to experience some of the spooky going-on of the adult tours, but with the added fun of a whole host of ghostly animal stories. With a spectral cat, haunting hound and even our very own species of spider, there’s definitely something for everyone!

Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace.  We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.

We receive no funding from the Government or the Crown, so we depend on the support of our visitors, members, donors, volunteers and sponsors. These palaces are owned by The Queen on behalf of the nation, and we manage them for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

We believe in four principles.  Guardianship: giving these palaces a future as long and valuable as their past. Discovery: encouraging people to make links with their own lives and today’s world.  Showmanship: doing everything with panache. Independence: having our own point of view and finding new ways to do our work. www.hrp.org.uk
