Celebrate the festive season at Hillsborough Castle
A Georgian Family Christmas at Hillsborough Castle
21-23 December 2016, 11.00-16.00
For a truly immersive and magical experience for all the family, this is a chance to step back in time and join the Castle household of 1800 as they prepare for the arrival of Lord Arthur Hill, 2nd Marquess of Downshire and his young family for Christmas.
Families will be led through the castle which will be festooned in authentic decorations, with food historians telling all about Georgian food and drink. Visitors can even try the delights of twelfth cake and a wassail cup.
Award-winning early music ensemble, Sestina will recreate the musical atmosphere of Christmas and families can help them use their period instruments to perform Handel’s masterpiece, the Messiah. Visitors can also join the Armagh Rhymers as The Wren Boys, Ireland’s traditional St Stephen’s day mummers, and have a go at making festive decorations to take away.

Georgian Christmas Late

Celebrate a Georgian Christmas in this adults-only event at Hillsborough Castle, complete with music, wassailing and merry-making.
Guests are invited to come dressed in festive evening wear or Georgian costume to enjoy live performances, fascinating talks, and festive refreshments. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase at the event
This event is suitable for those aged 18+ years. Advanced booking essential, tickets £10 per person.
Quiz at the Castle

Enjoy a fun evening full with prizes, drinks and a few surprises, in the magnificent setting of the Throne Room at Hillsborough Castle. Test your knowledge of sport, art, food and history at our festive pub quiz where rounds include famous couples, true or false and guess who?
May the best team win! Nuala McKeever will be our host for the evening so prepare for a fun and entertaining event! Comedienne and actress Nuala, from Belfast, is well known for TV series such as Give My Head Peace and It's Not All Rain & Potatoes, the sketch show McKeever and play Out of the Box.
Each team is made up of eight players so smaller groups may be paired with others to create a full team.
This event is suitable for those aged 18 + years. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase at the event. A coach service to and from Belfast and Lisburn will also be available. Historic Royal Palaces’ ambitious £16m project will see the site transformed and made more accessible with new visitor facilities including car parking, a learning centre and retail space opening up the castle and its gardens, ready to welcome 200,000 visitors each year by 2019.
