If you haven’t already discovered this amazing story of intrigue and daring then you can find out below.
And yes, it really happened.

Orange
The year is 1599 and the place is the Tower of London.  Tortured prisoner John Gerard asks his jailer for an orange, claiming the juice will heal his hands which have been kept in manacles for days...

Orange
Quill

Using orange juice instead of ink, Gerard writes to his friends to plan a daring escape.  As the juice dries on the paper the writing disappears.  The letter is sent...

Feather
Candle

Gerard receives his reply, also written with orange juice, and holds it over the lit candle.  The writing magically appears and Gerard’s plan is set in motion.  He later uses a rope to climb across the moat to meet his friends and escapes from the Tower!
