You can book tickets for the members events by telephoning 020 3166 6327 and pressing 3. Telephone lines are open Monday-Friday 09.00 - 17.00 or buy tickets online

Tower of London 

New Member tours of the Tower of London

Dates: 12 Sept and 9 Oct, 16 Oct (fully booked) starting at 17.45.

Price: FREE for new members (suitable for children of all ages)

If you have recently joined as a member but not yet had the chance to visit the Tower of London why not come along to one of the ‘new member tours’? Each tour is taken by one of our iconic Yeoman Warders and really gives you an experts’ guide of what there is to see and do.

Ceremony of the Keys

Dates: 16 Oct starting promptly at 21.30 (fully booked)

Price: the event is free but we ask for a donation of £5 on the night towards conservation costs.

The Ceremony of the Keys is the traditional locking up of the Tower of London and has taken place on each and every night, without fail, for at least 700 years. We have a very limited allocation of places so book early to secure your place.

Benjamin Franklin in London with George Goodwin
Date: 28 September, doors open 18.30 for 19.00 start
Price: £20 including refreshments
George Goodwin, author of Benjamin Franklin in London, captures the life of  one of history’s most remarkable and intriguing figures in the vibrant London of the 18th century. George tells a dramatic story with wit and verve. He reveals that Benjamin Franklin, the most famous American living in London between 1757 and 1775, was a strong supporter of a Great British Empire of North America – until ministers in Lord North’s government forced him to flee just weeks before the outbreak of war.

White Tower Tour
Date: 17 Oct, doors open 18.15 for a 18.30 start
Price: £15 including refreshments
The White Tower is one of the most famous castle keeps in the world. It was built, to awe, subdue and terrify Londoners and to deter foreign invaders.  It’s an iconic symbol of London and Britain. This is your chance to see the Line of Kings and St John’s Chapel after hours with a White Tower guide. The tour will be followed by a drinks reception.

Member luncheons in the Perkin Reveller, hosted by Jascots Wine Merchant
Date: 11 Nov, starting at 12noon
Price: £45 for a three-course lunch and accompanying wines.
These lunches are hosted by an expert from Jascots wine Merchants to ensure the menu and the wines match perfectly. Come on your own or in a group to get to know more about food and wine pairing and meet lots of lovely members too!

Game of Queens with Sarah Gristwood

Sarah’s latest book is a fascinating group biography including some of the most beloved (and reviled) queens in history. Game of Queens tells the story of the powerful women who drove European history, come and hear Sarah talk about her excellent new book.

Royal Renegades with Linda Porter
Date: 14 Nov, doors open 18.30 for a 19.00 start

The fact that the English Civil War led to the execution of King Charles I in January 1649 is well known, as is the restoration of his eldest son as Charles II eleven years later. But what happened to the king’s six surviving children is far less familiar. Casting new light on the heirs of the doomed king and his unpopular but indefatigable Catholic queen, Henrietta Maria, acclaimed historian Linda Porter brings to life their personalities, legacies, feuds and rivalries for the first time. We’re looking forward to welcoming Linda Porter to the Tower of London and we hope you’ll join us to hear her talk about her new book Royal Renegades: The Children of Charles I and the English Civil War.

Crown of Blood with Nicola Tallis

Historian and researcher, Nicola Tallis will discuss the human and emotional story about Lady Jane Grey that has thus far been ignored, revealing a young woman who saw herself as a champion of Protestantism, and ultimately became a martyr for her faith. Come and hear the story of Queen Jane for the first time at this exclusive event for the launch of Crown of Blood, The Deadly Inheritance of Lady Jane Grey by Nicola Tallis.

Meet a State Apartment Warder in the Members’ Room

Dates: 8 Sept, 8 Oct and 3 Nov – tours start at 11.00 and 14.00 respectively. 

Price: FREE for new members (suitable for children of all ages)

Members are lucky enough to have the services of a State Apartment Warder for one day a month in the Members’ room to show new members around, answer any questions or tell you about the ghosts and characters inhabiting the palace.

Lunchtime lectures

These monthly lunch lectures are a favourite among many members and the staff who have taken part. We have some super lectures coming up, we hope you can join us.

Real Tennis
Dates: 20 Sept, doors open for drinks and nibbles at 18.30.
Price: £15 including refreshments
Back by popular demand, this is your opportunity to get close to some Real Tennis professionals and see them in action.  This beautiful court has played host to Henry VIII himself and could certainly tell some tales.  Come and enjoy a glass of wine while you try and figure out the very complex rules.

Rooftop Tour of Hampton Court Palace
Dates: Alternate Saturday and Sundays throughout summer from Saturday 23 July, starting at 14.00 and 16.00. Please meet in the Members’ Room at 13.50 and 15.50 respectively

One of the highlights of each year is the opportunity to get up on the roof of Hampton
Court Palace and have a palace experience like no other. These tours show off the palace to absolute best advantage and there is an expert guide to lead the group round making sure the occasion is as spectacular as the view!

As you can imagine demand for these tours is extremely high and as the roof is a delicate conservation area we can only take small groups up at a time.

Sunday 11 Sept - 2pm and 4pm

Sensible, closed-toe footwear MUST be worn and admittance will be refused if footwear is deemed unsafe.

Baroque Palace and Little Banqueting House

Get in touch with the lesser-known baroque palace when you join Siobhan Clarke, Guide Lecturer, for a tour of the gardens and the beautiful Little Banqueting House of King William III.

Celebrating Edward VI’s Birthday
Date: 13 Oct starting promptly at 2pm

This event is a talk by Siobhan Clarke, one of Historic Royal Palaces’ finest guide lecturers. Siobhan will be in full Tudor costume and the talk will take place the day after Edward VI’s birthday in Apartment 33. This will be a very special way to mark his birthday – in the very room where he was born.

Banqueting House

What happened to Henry VIII’s great Whitehall Palace and what did the early Stuart kings do at the Banqueting House, its last remaining part? Although intended for plays and masques, this building is more famous as the place of execution of King Charles I. Explore its colourful and turbulent history with Siobhan Clarke and climb to the viewing gallery (not open to the public) for a closer look at the magnificent Rubens ceiling – the only one of his works in the world still in its original location.

Kensington Palace

Lunch is led by one of our special guest experts from the Orangery wine supplier Jascots and features many different and interesting wines for you to try. These events are a great way to learn about delicious ways to pair food and wine.

Kew Palace evening tour for Members
Date: 15 September starting at 19.00 – please meet at Elizabeth Gate.  Doors open at 18.45 for a 19.00 start.
Price: £20 including refreshments
The private tours of Kew Palace have become one of the favourite treats of the summer months.  These evening tours offer a rare opportunity to get behind the scenes, when the palace is closed, and see the wonders of this little gem up close and personal. Members will get to see everything from the Second World War graffiti in the attic to the Tudor undercroft, and enjoy drinks and refreshments.
