The cleaning and conservation of the White Tower at the Tower of London >

Completion date December 2010

The White Tower is one of Britain's most iconic buidlings. Built by William the Conqueror after the Norman Conquest the White Tower has stood for almost a thousand years as a symbol of power and strength.

Quinquennial surveys undertaken in the early and mid 1990s, confirmed that the historic fabric of both the rubble walling and stone dressings were deteriorating and vulnerable to decay, primarily due to hard pointing carried out by the Ministry of Works in previous decades. There was also a build up of sulphuration and atmospheric pollutants which create an impenetrable crust and further damage to masonry.

Generous support from our Premier Partner, Man Group meant that we have been able to undertake work to clean, repair and conserve the North, East and West external elevations and carry out repairs to the lead on the main roof and turrets.

Visible support of this work has helped Man Group promote their brand to the 2.6 million visitors that come to the Tower of London every year. As well as the countless numbers of people who pass the walls every day and see our adverts both across London and the wider UK.

Man Group have also had the benefit of a close relationship with Historic Royal Palaces which has entitled them to:
  • Free venue hires at all 5 of our palaces
  • Unlimited daytime access to all 5 of our palaces for their staff
  • Early morning Crown Jewels tours for their clients and staff
  • Behind the scens private tours for their clients and staff
  • Invitations to private views of our exhibitions
Diana, Princess of Wales, photographed by Mario Testino
Completion date March 2007

Between November 2005 and March 2007 Kensington Palace displayed a major exhibition of the last official photographs taken of Diana, Princess of Wales. These pictures helped to secure the reputation of the photographer, Mario Testino, as one of the world's leading photographers.

The iconic images were displayed in the State Apartments alongside a display of the Princess' dresses, which contained, amongst other items, some of the pieces that she wore in the shoot.

Sponsorship of this exhibition enabled HSBC Private Bank to promote their brand to an estimated 23.5 million people in the UK alone. This was acheived through a spread of radio, television and newspaper coverage.

In recognition of their valued support HSBC Private Bank also received employee benefits including access to the palaces and lunchtime lectures at their offices given by HRP curators.
