Spring 2013

March

On Saturday 9th March, award-winning law firm, Smith Valliere PLLC held their 'Spring Fling' at 230 5th Avenue, where they did Historic Royal Palaces the honor of being recognised for their work in the fields of conservation and education.

Over 250 guests gathered to enjoy the views of Manhattan and to meet Yeoman Sejeant Bob Loughlin, who regailed them with his 'tales of the Tower' and what it meant to be a member of the Yeoman Body
at HM Tower of London. The story of the Tower's resident elephant, in the time of the royal menagerie, was particularly well recieved!

Members of the American Patrons of Historic Royal Palaces Inc were also present, as were some of our honorary members and partners, such as St George's Society and the Royal Oak Foundation.

This event formed part of Historic Royal Palaces Inc's ongoing efforts to reach out to its friends and supporters in the USA and we could not be more grateful to Mark Smith, Tim Valliere, Noelle Kowalczyk and all of the team at Smith Valliere for making us feel so welcome and for honoring us in this way.

April

During the Spring Historic Royal Palaces' prominent Curator of Historic Buildings, Dr Lee Prosser, traveled around the United States of America as the honored South West representative of the English Speaking Union's 'Evelyn Wrench Speaker Program'.

Named in honor of the English Speaking Union's founder, the program sends eight eminent British and American speakers across the country each year to the English Speaking Union branches who host their presentations.

Lee Prosser's demanding scheduled included 11 cities in under 3 weeks. The Tour began on April 6th in Oklahoma City and from there, Lee took in Tulsa, Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston (in a joint event with the Houston Museum of Fine Arts), New Orleans, Monroe and Shreveport. And if that wasn't enough, Lee then travelled to Boston for an event with the British Society, hosted by HRP USA Board Member, Lewis Allen, and then straight onto New York for a grand finale, hosted by Historic Royal Palaces and Hearst Corporation at Hearst Tower on 8th Avenue.

He delighted all of the branch audiences on the subjects of Kensington Palace Revealed; Secrets of the Royal Palaces, and Eighteenth-Century Kitchens and Royal Eating and was exceptionally well received.

As ever, we wouldn't be able to mount such ambitious programmes without the support of our friends and champions in the USA. They include: the Board of Directors of Historic Royal Palaces Inc. (USA); The English Speaking Union of the United States; The Royal Oak Foundation; The Daughters of the British Empire in the State of New York; St George's Society of New York; Hearst Corporation; Savoir Beds; Harneys Tea; Smith Valliere Law; Visit Britain; and many others! Thank you all!
