Questioning the Past

About this session

Key Stage 2 | Subject: History,  English (spoken language) | Topics: Tudors | Session Type: Object Handling

Henry VIII is one of England's most famous kings - but who was the real man behind the stereotype? Using artefacts, documents and replica objects, pupils will understand how the past is constructed from a range of sources.

Students will weigh evidence to formulate a balanced opinion of Henry VIII by asking key questions such as: what was Henry’s role in shaping the church in England? How was Henry different to monarchs who came before him? Was he a just and fair monarch?

This session supports the development of pupils' historical enquiry skills by focusing on the changing role of Henry VIII as a monarch.
