Questioning the past (SEND)

About this session

SEND | Subject: History | Topic: Tudors | Session Type: Classroom-based

Students will explore the reign and personality of King Henry VIII, using replica objects, and contemporary sources. How do we find out about the past? Are some sources biased? Students will use the evidence to construct a balanced opinion of the King and his reign.

The session is delivered by a presenter skilled in supporting students with special educational needs. It is based entirely in the classroom, and includes the following:

  • Trying on Tudor costume.
  • Looking at statements about the King from opposing viewpoints.
  • Chance to play a recreation of a historical instrument.
  • Stories about the King, illustrating his character.

  • Use artefacts to help explore the past.

Please note that the presenter will be in costume throughout, unless otherwise requested. The session is suitable for students aged between 7 and 18 years.
