In the year of her Golden Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth II addressed Parliament saying, 'Change is a constant; managing it has become an expanding discipline. The way we embrace it defines our future.'

Those sentences are emblematic of a reign which have overseen tremendous changes. In Elizabeth Revealed, Lucinda Hawksley looks at the reign of the longest-serving monarch in British history and at the woman whose image has become an international icon.

This domed temple was given as a wedding gift to Lady Alice Hill by her brother, the 5th Marquess of Downshire in 1867. A circular seat inside the temple sits behind a screen of Ionic columns.

Hillsborough Castle

The open iron gates of the garden are visible in the foregrouns and a blue clouded sky above is in start contract to the bright green of Europe's largest rhododendron, also visible behind the garden.
