The two saints are shown embracing, with holy rays emanating from St Frances' stigmata, which miraculously appeared two years before his death. Bartolomeo was an Italian  Renaissance painter of religious subjects who became a Dominician monk in 1500. A friend of Raphael, the two developed additional skills in perspective and colouring from one another.

Lady Alice's Temple, looking west across the terrace and pond. 

This domed temple was given as a wedding gift to Lady Alice Hill by her brother, the 5th Marquess of Downshire in 1867. A circular seat inside the temple sits behind a screen of Ionic columns.
