Experience Kew Palace’s ground-breaking new exhibition, George III: The Mind Behind the Myth, in a more personal way with an evening tour.
The tour begins at the unique Georgian Kitchens, where over 200 years ago servants worked to prepare food and medicine for King George III as he recovered from a mystery illness. You’ll enjoy a glass of wine (or soft drink) in the beautiful Kitchen Garden while you learn about how the royal cooks prepared meals fit for a King and how the Kitchens came to be abandoned in 1818.
Then, in groups of no more than 12, your costumed guide will take you round the intimate home of the Royal Family: Kew Palace.
You’ll go behind the myth to uncover the real story of George III, through an exhibition of his personal belongings. You’ll learn about how mental health was considered in the 18th century and explore how much attitudes have changed in the last 200 years – and how they haven’t. Your host will also show you the most secret parts of the palace, kept shut during the day, such as the attics, complete with 17th century witches’ marks, and an original Tudor undercroft.
Please be aware that we are still taking measures to ensure your visit is safe and comfortable. All visitors 11 and over are encouraged to wear face coverings whilst inside our buildings unless exempt.
