Hillsborough Castle and Gardens is now closed for major project works - re-opening in July 2018.

Press release

16 March 2016

Easter weekend (26-29 March) at Hillsborough Castle promises to be adventure packed with a variety of fun family activities for all ages.

Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity that cares for Hillsborough Castle, has teamed up with Young at Art, the people behind Belfast Children’s Festival, to run family workshops throughout the weekend 26- 29 March. Ever fancied building your own castle? Budding builders will work together, and with their parents, to create a colourful cardboard castle fit for royalty! Perfect for the under 5’s but suitable for all ages.

Meanwhile kids can get creative building their own miniature boat – but will it be ship-shape enough? Twice daily races on Saturday and Sunday in the castle garden’s stream will soon test how water-worthy it is! On Easter Monday and Tuesday (28 - 29 March), Lady Alice and friends will enthral youngsters with stories, comedy and music. Twice daily kids will be invited to the castle’s Throne Room for comedy and sing-a-long (open to all ages, but best for 8+). Or take a seat in the more intimate State Drawing Room for interactive storytelling (best for 3-6 years).

Throughout the holidays there’ll be a chance to play garden games and explore the beautiful grounds using Lady Alice’s trail, our specially created leaflet for families.

*Please note: sessions inside the Castle have limited numbers, allocated on a daily first-come-first served basis, so please arrive early on the day to book your place and avoid disappointment.
