Medieval adventures for all the family this half term at the Tower of London’s ‘Knight School: The Show’

29 May – 6 June

29 May – 6 June

Budding knights can travel back in time to the Wars of the Roses this May half term for a chance to experience life as a medieval warrior at London’s most fearsome fortress, the Tower of London. Children can join the forces of Margaret of Anjou in a plot to free her husband Henry VI, imprisoned in the Tower in 1471, in this fun-filled performance of Knight School: The Show which promises a fantastic day out for all the family at the newly reopened London landmark.

Set in the legendary open-air moat, with the Tower providing a spectacular backdrop, families can enjoy a 30 minute fun-filled performance, offering the chance to uncover daring deeds, chivalrous conduct and superb swordplay during the laughter-packed production. Aimed at those aged 5-12 , families can find out what it takes to be a true ‘knight in shining armour’, all from the comfort of their own socially-distanced area on the lawn, with performances delivered in the round to ensure everyone has a great view of the action.

Following the action-packed performances, it’s time to rally the troops and head inside the Tower of London itself, where knights in training can uncover the fascinating history for themselves. With reduced visitor capacity, this is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site without the usual crowds. The famous Yeoman Warders - or ‘Beefeaters’ - will be on hand to share captivating stories of the 1,000 year old former royal prison, before visitors can head inside the Jewel House to marvel at the magnificent Crown Jewels. Little ones might also spot the famous ravens, shrouded in myth and legend and now synonymous with the Tower of London.

To provide peace of mind for visitors, a host of safety measures, such as one-way routes, hand sanitiser dispensers and social distancing signage will be in place across the Tower site to ensure returning visitors feel safe.  Visitors are also asked to book in advance to help Historic Royal Palaces – the charity that cares for the Tower of London – to manage capacity and allow everyone to enjoy their time at the Tower with plenty of space.

Knight School: The Show will run four performances daily from 29 May – 6 June, is included in the price of general admission to the Tower of London and is a co-production between Historic Royal Palaces and the live interpretation and theatre company, ‘History Riot’. Historic Royal Palaces Members go free. Pre-booking is essential.
