Superbloom Schools project

Superbloom Schools project

Here's a bountiful bunch of frequently asked questions - and our responses to help your school get into the gardening groove.

  • What does it cost to be involved?

The specially designed seed mix and online resources that we provide are free, but there may be set up costs if your school doesn't have gardening equipment such as compost, sand, watering cans, etc.

  • Can I still sign up?
We’ve had an amazing response from schools and have now reached our capacity for free school visits to the Superbloom and for seed applications.
Although we won't be able to offer your school a free visit, we can provide the supporting resources for the project including online teacher training, lesson packs, short films and a ‘how to’ manual, which are available and free to download from our website.
  • I've completed the application form. What happens next?

It's taking us a while to process all the applications. If you have already submitted an application on behalf of your school, then we will be in touch to confirm your place as soon as possible.

  • When will I receive my school's seeds pack?

Seed packs will be posted to your school from early March 2022 onwards which will be great timing for getting your seeds planted in the ground.

  • Do I need to be an expert gardener?

No gardening experience is required! We will be providing information and resources to support you and your class in creating and growing your superbloom. A willingness to dig in and get a bit dirty when it's time to sow your seeds would be helpful though.

  • When should my school plant our seeds?

Get that soil prepped and ready for sowing from February 2022 and make sure your seeds are in the ground by end of March 2022. For optimal flower growth, add water and sunshine!

  • How do I sow my seeds?

Check out our range of online CPD for teachers and resources for the classroom garden, to help you get on your way. Then get your students to roll up their sleeves and dig in.

  • What seeds will be included in the seed mix?

We've created a special seed mix that includes:

    Anethum graveolens / Dill

Atriplex hortensis 'Rubra' / Red Orache

Calendula officinalis 'Indian Prince' / Pot Marigold

Centaurea cyanus 'Blue' / Cornflower Blue

  • We only have a small garden/window box can we still take part?

Absolutely, it’s important to us that as many schools across the country take part as possible. If you have a field or just a window sill, everyone is welcome.

If you don’t use the seeds, feel free to give them away to your pupil’s families, teachers etc.

  • What size area will the seeds cover?

The approximate coverage for the 12 pack will be 72 square feet. You can use as much or as little as the seed packet as you wish.

  • We have a lot of outdoor space, can we ordering multiple packs of seeds?

Unfortunately we can only offer one pack per school. But feel free to add more seeds or plants to create expand your garden.

  • I want to book a trip to the Tower

To book a school visit to the Tower of London, check out How to plan and book a school visit.

  • Can I book my school in for a visit to the Tower moat garden?

We will have a limited number of places available for schools visits in the summer term 2022. We have not yet opened bookings for these and we will be in touch when it’s time to book.
