One of the most famous works of classical music ever written, the Messiah has remained popular ever since it was first performed in 1742.
Handel, ‘Composer of Musick of His Majesty's Chappel Royal’, directed the first performance of his masterpiece in a small hall in Dublin, Ireland, and this concert presents the work in a similarly intimate building. The size and atmosphere of this historic Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula at the Tower provides a unique space in which to experience music making, ideal for recreating the intimacy of Handel’s original performance of Messiah.
The choir is one of Britain's leading chapel choirs. Formed of twelve professional singers, the choir continues the tradition of musical excellence central to the English royal court for centuries.
