Why was John Gerard imprisoned in the Tower? What was life like for Catholic priests in Elizabethan times? How did he pull off such a daring feat?

This interactive session enables students to explore the real life story of the escape of John Gerard from the Tower.

Through multi-sensory learning, students will find out about the events leading up to this astounding but little-known event. Based in a classroom, the session will feature the following:  

  • Singing a rhyme about exploring the palace.
  • Handling replica objects.
  • Dancing and games.
  • Drama and role play.

Learning objectives
Students will:

  • Learn about the Tower of London's stories and history.
  • Be empowered to use their senses to explore new historic environments.
  • Develop social and emotional skills.

This session is suitable for students with MLD and SLD, aged between 6 and 16 years, who attend special schools or units. Please note that the presenter will be in costume unless requested otherwise by the school.

Unfortunately due to fire safety policy relating to our learning spaces, we can only accept up to 2 wheelchair users in any one session.
