Historic Royal Palaces' Joint Chief Curator Lucy Worsley is joined by Tower of London Ravenmaster Yeoman Warder Christopher Skaife for a unique look into the lives of the most famous birds in London, the ravens.

Charles II is thought to have been the first to insist that the ravens of the Tower be protected after he was warned that the crown and the Tower itself would fall if they left. Today, the awesome responsibility of looking after these precious birds - and the fate of the kingdom itself - is borne by Christopher, a member of the Tower’s famous body of Yeoman Warders (sometimes known as Beefeaters).

In this intimate 1 hour talk online, Lucy and Christopher will delve deep into the daily lives and personalities of these most cosseted of corvids. What do they eat, where do they sleep and what do they do all day in lockdown? Lucy will also explore the stories of some of our most notorious ravens – from aerial-chewing vandals to escapees - and the history and mythology of these fascinating creatures.

The conversation will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

The six palaces under the care of Historic Royal Palaces are currently closed as part of the national effort to defeat the coronavirus. As an independent charity that generates all our own funds, we – like many of you – are facing unprecedented challenges. Any support you can give will be put to our essential costs of caring for the palaces and looking after the ravens.

We look forward to you joining our online event.
