Autumn half term 2012

27 October - 4 November 2012

Henry's Crown at Hampton Court Palace
Spies, Treaties and the Glory of the King's Crown

The year is 1546 and Henry VIII, now an ailing King nearing the end of his reign, is preparing for one last glorious display, the extremely rare occurrence of publically wearing his fabulous Crown of State.

French Ambassadors visit from the court of his old adversary Francis I, in the hope of securing a lasting peace between the two nations. But what is the Imperial Ambassador from the Holy Roman Emperor up to?

Join King Henry, attended by his wife Kateryn Parr, his daughter Mary and other leading courtiers in a day of international intrigue, celebration and pageantry.

Will peace prevail between the two mighty Kingdoms? Only with the help of visitors both young and old!

The re-creation of Henry VIII's crown will be on display in the Royal Pew, above the Chapel Royal, 10:00-14:30 (12:30-13:30 on Sundays).

It will come off display in the early afternoon during half term so that it can be moved to the king's private dressing room, ready for him to wear at the end of the day.

In celebration of this grand occasion and the rare opportunity to see Henry wearing his Crown of State, children will be able to decorate a crown of their own in either the Clore Learning Centre by the ticket office or the Base Court schools lunchrooms inside the palace.
