Hire a wheelchair and volunteer guide

Hire a wheelchair and volunteer guide

Two hours for just £5

Hampton Court Palace has a powered volunteer-operated wheelchair which visitors may hire. This is the only wheelchair that can be pre-booked at the palace.

Our manual wheelchairs and garden-only mobility scooters are available on a first come first served basis and cannot be booked in advance.

Call +44 (0)20 3166 6000 or email booking.confirmations@hrp.org.uk for details on hiring this specific wheelchair or send in the booking form below. Calls cost 5p per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.

Please aim to book at least 2 weeks in advance as availiability of our volunteers cannot be guaranteed with less notice although we will respond to your request within 3 working days.

Take the weight off your feet for a couple of hours and let our trained volunteers take you round in style!

While visitors who may want to use a wheelchair are encouraged to bring their own for comfort and ease, Hampton Court Palace has a wheelchair which visitors may hire. It is the We-Go - a 'manual' wheelchair that uses a battery pack to do all the hard work. We have a number of trained volunteers who are available to accompany it.

Aimed at visitors who find lots of walking tiring - and there is a lot of walking at Hampton Court Palace - the We-Go is available for 2 hours at a time and the volunteers will take visitors on set routes of the palace.

Please specify which route you would like at the time of booking.

There is a cost - £5.00 per two hours. This is in addition to a palace admission ticket.

So if you would like to conserve your energy and have two hours in the morning and two hours after lunch, please book a morning and afternoon slot - which will cost £10 in total.

Please specify when you would like your two hours to begin when booking, noting that as the palace opens at 10am the earliest a tour could begin is 10:15 as the volunteers can't get to the wheelchair until then. Indeed, we recommend 10:30-12:30 for a morning tour and 13:00-15:00 for an afternoon tour.

There is a maximum carrying capacity! You, and any bags you want to keep with you, must not exceed 113kg/250lbs/17½ stone.

Please also bear in mind, especially when dressing for a visit on a cold winter's day, that the We-Go is about the size of an economy-class airline seat, and has about as much leg room!

Any accompanying children must be supervised by an able-bodied adult. Indeed, the volunteer guides are there to look after the person in the We-Go not anyone else in their party.

For evacuation purposes, due to the size of the refuge areas, only six wheelchairs are allowed on the first floor at any one time. We may, therefore, have to alter the route of your tour slightly if the lift is briefly unavailable.

For your own comfort and to avoid any risk, we ask you to wear the seatbelt at all times.
