Join expert Madeleine Marsh for a look at the history of cosmetics and discover how royal women used them to enhance their image. Madeleine will be bringing along her own collection of vintage make up to illustrate the changing face of beauty across the decades.

Madeleine Marsh is an artist, writer and broadcaster. Her interests include art history, vintage fashion and women’s history. She has appeared on Antiques Road Show (BBC2), This Morning (ITV) and numerous documentaries and historical programmes. Read more at

Join curator Claudia Williams to discover the transition from Georgian portraiture and satirical depictions, to Victorian photography and the rise of modern publicity.

Designing for Diana study day

Discover the skills and techniques of the key designers featured in the new Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibition in this in-depth study day. Learn about the working relationship Diana, Princess of Wales had with Catherine Walker, Bruce Oldfield, David Sassoon and the Emanuels. The day includes lectures from Senior Curator Deirdre Murphy and Collection Curator Eleri Lynn,  handling workshops and lunch at Kensington Palace. Includes lunch and optional morning private view of the exhibition.

Eleri Lynn is the Collections Curator at Historic Royal Palaces. She has been the lead curator on the project team for Kensington Palace's new exhibition, Diana: Her Fashion Story. Eleri is interested in all aspects of historic fashion, especially underwear, and co-curated last year's V&A exhibition, Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear.

Deirdre Murphy
is a Senior Curator at Historic Royal Palaces. She has special responsibility for the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection and for the curation of exhibitions and displays at Kensington Palace. Deirdre is Chairman of the Costume Society of Great Britain and has co-written Modern Royal Fashion: Seven Royal Women and their Style.

Ticket holders can also attend an optional private view of the exhibition.
