Bring your iPhone or iPod Touch to the Tower and you can help virtual prisoners escape from the real locations where they were held.
You might also “meet” some of our famous prisoners like Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes. Make the right choices and answer questions correctly and you’ll earn gold sovereigns. Choose the wrong path and you might find yourself locked up or having to pay a bribe!
Players who complete all four missions can register their score and will be eligible for entry into a prize draw to win free entry into the palaces.
The app can be downloaded at home or on site at the Tower wi-fi hotspot in front of the Tower Shop at the main gate. Click here to download now

These prisoners need your help to escape and they’re willing to pay handsomely for your help ...
Henry Laurens
Henry Laurens was an American who had been captured sailing to Holland to raise funds for the fight for independence in 1780. He negotiated a prisoner swap with the former Constable of the Tower. Players must smuggle a letter, choosing whether to accept a bribe to do so, pick a present to persuade a Yeoman Warder to help and answer questions to win the 40 sovereign reward.
John Gerard
John Gerard was a Jesuit priest who wrote secret letters in orange juice and then escaped by rope from the Cradle Tower into a waiting boat in 1597. Players will have to bring him oranges, deliver a secret letter, find a rope and answer a quiz to earn extra sovereigns. A successful escape earns 50 sovereigns.
Ranulf Flambard
Ranulf Flambard was the Tower’s first prisoner who escaped by rope from the White Tower in 1101 after throwing a party for his guards. Players will have to find the rope, invite guards to the party and answer questions to get him out, earning 50 sovereigns for a successful escape.
A polar bear
The polar bear, a gift from King Haakon of Norway to Henry III, wanted a collar and chain so she could go fishing in the Thames. We can’t prove it was a talking polar bear but we have evidence for the rest of the story! Players have to get a collar and chain for the bear, masquerade as a knot expert and help the bear slip the knot to earn 30 sovereigns.
