Update 27 November: In line with government guidance, Hampton Court Palace is closed until 2 December, but our gardens are open at the weekends only. We will reopen the palace on 5 December. Please read our FAQs

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

School visit bookings for spring and summer 2021 will open on Monday 16 November. 

We are working behind the scenes to relaunch our learning visits with enhanced safety measures in place. View our most up to date visitor safety information.

Self-led visits

A self-led school visit to Hampton Court Palace includes:

  • Allocated time slot for your Palace admission, including all visitor routes open on the date.
  • Access to the gardens, excluding the Magic Garden and the Maze.
  • Pre-visit email including two teacher planning passes.
  • Lunchrooms (subject to availability) for Key Stages 1-4.
  • New from February 2021: Self-led trails for Key Stages 1-4.

What's not included?

  • Sessions - Available for A level from February 2021.
  • Maze - Currently closed, please check back for updates. 
  • Magic Garden - Currently closed to groups, please check back for updates.

All school group admissions must be booked in advance, we recommend booking at least two months in advance as dates do sell out quickly. Payment is due six weeks before visiting.

Teachers and adults

Up to agreed ratios: Free
Adults for 1:1 assistance: Free
Additional adults: £22.60

Adult to student ratios

Early Year Foundation Stage = 1:4 (free adult spaces up to 1:2)
Key Stage 1 (age 4-7) = 1:5
Key Stages 2, 3 & 4 (age 7-15) = 1:10
Key Stage 5 and up (age 16+) = 1:15
SEND groups can determine their own ratios.

Groups with an inadequate number of accompanying adults may not be admitted. 

To support social distancing we will ask classes to break up into smaller groups with a maximum of 10 students whilst inside the palace spaces.

Subsidised rates are available for weekdays (Wednesday - Friday) during UK term time only, not school or bank holidays. We are operating timed entry slots to support social distancing. School entry slots will be available from 10:45 -13:15.

Visiting safely

Please read our current safety procedures for keeping you safe on your visit.

In order to best support you and your group we will also provide:

  • Updated group leader information packs four weeks prior to your visit, including the most up to date health and safety information.
  • Timed entry slot for your school to help you stay in your school 'bubble'.
  • Flexible booking terms, allowing you to move your visit within the academic year if needed.
  • Teacher planning passes included in your booking confirmation, to allow two teachers to visit and plan your day.

Payment options

After receiving your booking request we will email you with a confirmation invoice which must be paid in advance of your visit and according to our payment terms.

BACS

Our preferred method of payment is by BACS. Payment details can be found on your invoice. When making payment please ensure you quote the invoice number and if possible your school/company name.

Important payment terms

  • Your invoice will be attached to your confirmation email.
  • Payment is due six weeks prior to visiting. Extra tickets must be purchased on the day at standard group rates.
  • Bookings with less than six weeks' notice require immediate payment. The cancellation & amendment deadline is 5pm on the day after the booking is confirmed.
  • We regret that no refunds can be given for cancellations or amendments made less than six weeks in advance of your visit. This includes non-arrivals on the day.
  • Coronavirus (COVID-19): We are able to reschedule visits within the 2020-21 academic year to allow for local lockdowns and other challenges arising from COVID-19.
