What is the Community Access Scheme?

The Community Access Scheme (CAS) offers local community groups practical advice/support for exploring Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, along with free group entry.

Who is it for?

Constituted community groups based locally to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. We are particularly keen to hear from groups who would not normally visit the castle or see it as a place of interest for them.

What does the scheme offer participating groups?

To enjoy the benefits of CAS membership your group leader must first attend a compulsory group leader training morning. These take place monthly and are designed to equip group leaders with the skills and knowledge to confidently bring groups on site. Training sessions run from 10.00-14.00 and include a tour of the castle. Following attendance at training your group will then be able to enjoy the following:

  • Free group access to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens for one year for groups of up to 20 people. (Please note that visits to the castle are subject to availability and must be pre-booked with Louise Smith, Learning Producer for Communities. Groups do not need to pre-book garden visits, however, all visiting groups must be accompanied by a leader who has attended group leader training.)
  • Discounted entry tickets for group members who return to the palace with a friend after taking part in a group visit.
  • Opportunity to book a room in our Clore Learning Centre for your own group activities (subject to availability and pre-booking required.)
  • Occasional opportunities to participate in facilitated creative workshops and seasonal activities.

How can I get involved?

Group leaders must book a place on an upcoming group leader training morning to learn more about the programme and how it works, and get useful tips on what to do when bringing groups to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

For details on the next available training session please email Louise Smith, Learning Producer for Communities.

A guide shows a group of visitors the Throne Room in the State Rooms at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. Two red and gold thrones sit at one end of the room and the walls are lined with green silk damask and the walls are lined with historical artwork.
