Tomorrow's Tower

Transforming the Tower of London

A new chapter for the Tower of London

Tomorrow’s Tower is a once-in-a-generation programme that will transform how people experience, learn from and connect with the Tower of London. It brings together learning, community engagement, sustainability, accessibility, conservation and visitor experience.

The programme is being delivered through Historic Royal Palaces’ largest-ever fundraising campaign. With more than £20 million already donated and pledged, supporters are helping secure the future of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and shape the next chapter of its history.

World-class learning experiences

Tomorrow’s Tower will revolutionise how we welcome and work with schools in this world-famous fortress. New, fully accessible facilities designed by Jamie Fobert Architects will enable us to double our annual school visits, while reaching many more nationwide through digital programmes and live broadcasting.

The first part of Tomorrow’s Tower is the largest investment in learning and community facilities ever made at the Tower of London.

Two new learning centres

Located on the Wharf, the Weston Learning & Community Centre will become the starting point for hundreds of schools and community groups each year. Designed for participation and belonging, it will feature flexible, hands-on learning spaces.

The historic Waterloo Block will be carefully adapted and conserved to create the three-floor Julia Rausing Learning Centre, significantly expanding education provision while conserving the building’s heritage.

A transformational investment in learning

250% Increase in educational capacity
200,000 Learners welcomed each year
25,000 Community participants annually
25,000+ Historic archive records made accessible

Opening the archives for the first time

For the first time, the Tower’s architectural drawings collection will be opened to the public in a dedicated, fully accessible space. Housed within the Julia Rausing Learning Centre, the new Archive Study Centre will bring together more than 25,000 drawings showing over 200 years of design, building and conservation work across the Tower and other palaces cared for by Historic Royal Palaces.

Housed onsite, these historically significant materials will be available for students, teachers, researchers, and local communities to explore.

Learning in nature

A new 'Green Classroom' in the historic Moat will invite school and community groups to explore biodiversity, climate and history together – showing how nature and heritage are connected. Designed by Grant Associates, it will offer hands-on opportunities for outdoor learning, encouraging curiosity, wellbeing and a deeper connection to the natural world.

A dedicated space for local communities

The Mint Street Community Room will become the first dedicated space within the Tower for local community use.

Designed as an accessible and welcoming environment, it reflects our commitment to opening the Tower to the communities who live around it - creating new opportunities for participation, connection, and shared enjoyment of this historic place.

A work in progress

While we’re undertaking these works, it will occasionally be necessary to close or restrict access to spaces at the Tower. Please check for route closures before visiting.
