Magic Garden closures

The Magic Garden will be closed for essential maintenance and upkeep on the following dates in 2017:

The Chapel Royal

The Chapel Royal is a working chapel which occasionally closes for religious services.

Access to formal gardens

We are unable to offer ‘free access’ into the Formal Gardens between 9am-10am from the 23 August to 6 September inclusive.

It’s very rare that access will not be permitted for this number of days. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

East front gardens

BBC Good Food's Feast

The East Front Gardens will be shut to the public on 24, 25, 29 and 30 August for the set up and break of BBC Good Food's Feast.

The gardens will be open for BBC Good Food's Feast on 26-28 over the August bank holiday weekend. Entry to the festival is included in your palace ticket and free to all Historic Royal Palaces' members. Find out more about BBC Good Food's Feast >

Concours of Elegance

The East Front Gardens will also be shut for the build of Concours of Elegance on 31 August and the break on 4 September. This event is for ticket holders only. Find out more information about the Concours of Elegance >

The Privy gardens will be open for visitors.

Free entry to the Formal Gardens

We offer free access to the palace’s East Front Gardens between the hours of 9am and 10am throughout the year. In addition to this daily opening, there are an additional nine days of free access to the Palace’s formal gardens during the palace’s summer season in 2017:

  • National Garden Open Day: We will be opening the East and South Front Gardens free of charge on 1 August each year in conjunction with the National Gardens Scheme. 
  • Hampton Court Palace Flower Show: We will be opening the East and South Front Gardens for the duration of the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show: 4 – 9 July 2017
  • Open House Weekend: We will be opening the East and South Front Gardens for the duration of Open House Weekend: 16 – 17 September 2017

Built between 1526 and 1529, the royal tennis courts at Hampton Court Palace were used regularly by Henry VIII and you can view them as part of your visit.
