Receptions and dining

Royal spaces, remarkable occasions

For almost 400 years, Kensington Palace has been home to some of Britain’s most celebrated royals, from Queen Victoria to Diana, Princess of Wales. Today, it offers an extraordinary and exclusive setting for receptions and dining, where historic grandeur and artistic beauty combine to elevate every occasion. With only a limited number of events held within the State Apartments each year, hosting your event here ensures a rare and truly prestigious experience your guests will never forget.

The four interlinking rooms that make up the State Apartments- The King’s Drawing Room, The Privy Chamber, The Cupola Room, and King’s Gallery offer stunning backdrops for standing receptions and dining.

We were delighted with the organisation of our event at The Orangery, Kensington Palace. Jess, Rachel and the team were so helpful from the outset. Nothing was too much trouble and every question I had was answered with clarity and patience. The event was a huge success and we have had some wonderful feedback on the elegance of the venue and the excellent service and organisation. We would very happy to work with them again.

FAQ's for Kensington Palace

At Kensington Palace, we can offer spaces for a wide variety of events, including drinks receptions, gala dinners, wedding ceremonies and receptions, private celebrations, brand launches, award ceremonies, and more!

We are a dry-hire venue, and your hire includes an event manager, cleaner, electrician, and use of the space you have hired. We work with a list of approved suppliers who can help bring all elements of your event to life, including catering, floristry, entertainment, and production, to help deliver your event.

We work exclusively with our approved suppliers, and all event elements must be sourced via these.

Please note that we are unable to quote on behalf of our approved suppliers. Where we would welcome your own suppliers would be for photography, wedding/celebration cakes, and transport, although these must be approved by your event planner.

The Orangery buyout fee applies to all daytime and all-day bookings for The Orangery. This is because The Orangery operates as a restaurant during the day, and therefore this fee is passed to them to cover the business lost on that day if they close for an event. This varies from month to month, with the winter months being the lowest fee.

We only take one booking on any day, so there will not be multiple events happening at Kensington Palace simultaneously.

Kensington Palace is accessible, with step-free access and lifts available throughout the palace. We have a range of facilities and provisions to support guests with access requirements, including accessible toilets, accessible parking, and wheelchair access. As accessibility can vary between our event spaces and depending on the event set-up, please speak to our team to discuss your specific requirements and how we can best accommodate your guests.

We can offer 90-minute access for your guests to one of our exhibitions for an additional fee; this includes knowledgeable staff throughout the spaces to interact with guests and answer any questions.

We also have a pool of wonderful Palace Guides who can be brought in to give guided tours (up to 30 guests at once) or short talks about the history of the Palace or The Orangery.

For further info on this, please contact our team of your dedicated event planner.

We do not have air conditioning due to the historic nature of the site; however, we do have a limited number of fans available.

Yes! Dancing is permitted in The Orangery only. A dancefloor is required for any event where dancing is expected to take place, or where a band or DJ is performing.

If you would like to include dancing at your event but would prefer to host your standing reception and dining in the State Apartments, we highly recommend hiring The Orangery or building a marquee on The Orangery’s private lawns for your evening entertainment.

Yes! We are licensed for wedding ceremonies with up to 150 guests. You can hold the ceremony in The Orangery, King’s Gallery, King’s Drawing Room, Orangery Lawns, East Front Lawns, Cradle Walk, and the Meadow (room capacities will apply).

Yes! As part of The Orangery hire, you are able to build small-scale tents on the Orangery Terrace, which can also help to increase guest capacity. For an additional fee, you can also build small- or large-scale structures on the Orangery Lawns.

We have seen some amazing multi-day, large-scale builds take place over the past couple of years.
