Private guided tours

For a truly memorable experience, book one of our friendly and knowledgeable guides for a private guided tour of the palace and/or gardens.

Tours start at £110 + VAT (£132) for a 1½ hour tour. This is in addition to palace admission tickets.

Our guides are passionate about history, fun to be with and provide a whole range of fascinating facts and anecdotes to entertain all the family. All of our guides are Institute of Tourist Guiding Level 2 qualified, which sets the gold standard for professional guiding.
Guides need to be booked and paid for in advance and the more notice you can give us the easier it will be to match you up with the most appropriate guide for your group.
Further information

Our Guides can offer tours in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Hungarian, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. We also have three guides who are Deaf and native British Sign Language users.

These tours are subject to the availability of the guide so early booking is advisable.

Some of our Guides have historic costumes so you could book a personal costumed tour guide - although this does cost more and is subject to the availability of these guides. They can only deliver tours in English.

Guides are available to private tours lasting 1½ hours, 2½ hours or 3½ hours.

To hire your own private Guide, call 020 3166 6000 or email Or simply download the booking form at the bottom of this page!

We also have three family audio tours in English that are suitable for children aged 6 and over.

Free daily plays and presentations

Each day we have costumed actors or live interpreters giving plays and presentations about some of the history that happened at Hampton Court Palace. Some of the plays last about 10 minutes, some last an hour - and some require audience participation (but you don't have to join in if you'd rather watch)!

Details of times and meeting places are in your 'Today's Programme'.

  • No need to show your admission ticket.
  • Just turn up at the right time in the right place.

Seasonal free tours and talks

These are generally seasonal and don’t take place every day.

They cover a range of specialist subjects - from the gardens and the Great Vine in the summer months, to tours of the Verrio paintings or a tour of the Little Banqueting House in the autumn.

There can also be conservation tours or object talks on a more general theme at any time of year. Details of dates, times and meeting places are in your 'Today's Programme'.

  • No need to show your admission ticket.
  • You may need to reserve a place as some tours have a limit on numbers. If this is the case, go to the Information Centre off Base Court.
