Free Schools’ Sessions & Travel Bursaries
25 free sessions
To mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, Hillsborough Caste and Gardens is offering 25 free sessions and travel bursaries to schools. The sessions on offer explore Hillsborough Castle’s role in the political realm of the day, from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Sessions can be selected from the following options and can be booked from April 2023 – Thursday 16 November 2023.
- Power & Politics (KS 2)
- The Origins of Northern Ireland – From Plantation to Present Day (KS 3)
- Politics, Power & the Path to Peace (KS 4/5)
- A Working Home (SEND)
Each facilitated session will also have an associated booked lunch slot, space to leave bags and coats and the opportunity to explore Hillsborough Castle’s gardens and the Imaginary Menagerie play trails outside of your session.
travel bursaries
Schools allocated a free session will also receive a travel bursary (up to £500) to offset the cost of travel to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

To book one of the 25 free sessions available, please complete a booking request form and email it to [email protected] quoting the following in your email subject line: GFA 25 Free Sessions Booking Form.
Be sure to specify in your booking form which session you would like to book from the following options:
- Power & Politics (KS 2)
- The Origins of Northern Ireland – From Plantation to Present Day (KS 3)
- Politics, Power & the Path to Peace (KS 4/5)
- A Working Home (SEND)
Sessions will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and can be booked on available days between April 2023 and Thursday 16 November 2023.
