Become a climate consultant and learn about the global & local effects of climate change through an exploration of Hillsborough Castle’s gardens. Uncover the challenges, think about solutions, and learn how Hillsborough Castle & Gardens is tackling the impacts of a changing climate.

Learning objectives

Pupils will:

  • Learn what climate change is.

  • Learn the causes of climate change and be able to identify greenhouse gases i.e. carbon dioxide & methane.

  • Learn what a carbon sink is and how they can help tackle climate change.

  • Learn about the negative impacts of climate change on the environment, people, plants, and animals.

  • Be able to identify local measures which can help tackle climate change at Hillsborough Castle & Gardens.

  • Work together to suggest solutions to help tackle evidence of climate change on a local scale.

This session supports:

  • Pupils to develop a sense of place through the study of a local context, i.e. Hillsborough Castle & Gardens.

  • Pupils to develop a sense of place through the study of a significant topical issue i.e. climate change.

  • Pupils to gain an understanding of the interrelationships between people and the environment through a local study.

  • Pupils to explore the need for sustainable social, economic and environmental change through a local case study.

  • Pupils will explore the conflicts between social, economic and environmental needs within a local context.
